Community Fundraisers

Hello friends of Wappingers Rises. We’ve been inspired by three community fundraisers that include wonderful people and community coming together - we had to share!

WHAT SHOULD WE KNOW: Wear Together - Collaborative T-shirt project between artists and businesses in the Hudson Valley. The idea is simple, artists and businesses unite and create a unique limited edition T-shirt inspired by the business.T-shirts are available for the community to buy during a two week pre-sale.

TELL US MORE: How often do you get a limited edition run of a t-shirt that supports an awesome artist in your community and a business you love?!? Keely Sheehan designing for County Fare = YES PLEASE! You can support Adam Lauricella and Jasmine Morin who both have had their business completely shutdown for over 2 months by purchasing the Revival on Main shirt. As great as the t-shirts are we love the bios the artist writes for each shirt. It gives you all the feels and love we need during this time.

CONSIDER THIS: If possible, buy a shirt! Share the website and social media accounts with friends. Spread the word. Exclusive designs with a limited time to buy and then the shirt designs are retired. SHOP HERE.

WHAT SHOULD WE KNOW: Beacon Art of Love - Beacon of Love is hosting this online art show/fundraiser to benefit Fareground, a Beacon-based nonprofit organization, that has ramped up its efforts to combat food insecurity in the wake of Covid-19.

Funds raised from the sale in this store will be split 50/50 between the artist and Fareground.

TELL US MORE: Fareground has always supported the community with their Tiny Food Pantries - one being right outside of the Methodist Church in The Village of Wappingers Falls. However during the time of covid we’ve seen this group work effortlessly, lovingly, and selflessly across the community feeding as many people as they can. The fundraiser is packed with incredible artists including Town resident Margot Kingon and Village resident Mariken Cochius!!

CONSIDER THIS: Visit their preview site and consider purchasing a piece of art when the sale begins 5/30. This is a limited event so be sure to check it out now here. Ignore the sold out in our image below- that’s just a preview site. They will be available 5/30.

WHAT SHOULD WE KNOW: The MJD lOVe Scholarship - In loving memory of Michael Joseph DiStefano, son of Orchard View Alternative HS principal Laura DiStefano, an annual scholarship fund has been created. This scholarship combines Laura’s two loves together- the love of her son who tragically passed away, and the love of her “kids” at Orchard View. This June, two graduating seniors from Orchard View AHS will be selected to receive $500 each towards their pursuit of college and/or career. It is our hope to continue this scholarship year after year, so any funds more than the initial $1000 goal for this year will fund the scholarship next year.

TELL US MORE: We learned about this scholarship through messages we received on social media and email asking us to support this gofundme. Some even shared stories with us explaining how Laura helped their family in ways they can never thank her for. The messages alone show how much love and support Laura has during this time and how lucky her peers, students, and their families, are to have her. We are all here for you Laura sending you love and hugs. We love you!

CONSIDER THIS: Visit the go fund me and consider a donation to go towards the scholarship fund.
